Dispersant
Poor pigment dispersion can lead to several defects, including flocculation, reduced gloss, color shift, floating/flooding, Benard cells, and settling. To prevent these issues, dispersants are essential.In pigment manufacturing, the smallest units are primary particles. These can form aggregates (tight clumps) or, when combined with aggregates via van der Waals forces, larger agglomerates. The goal of dispersion is to break agglomerates down into primary particles—or at least a stable mix of primary particles and aggregates.
