Defoamer
A bubble is a dispersion of a large amount of insoluble gas (usually air) in a small volume of liquid, forming a heterogeneous system with a significant gas-liquid interface.In paints and inks, foam mainly arises from:Air adsorbed by pigment fillersReaction bubbles during film solidificationMechanical air entrapment in production or applicationRelease of air from porous substrates during coatingSurfactants stabilize foam by preventing film thinning through the Marangoni effect and electrostatic forces. In contrast, defoamers work by being incompatible with the system and having lower surface tension, thereby destabilizing and breaking foam. Common defoamers include mineral oil, organosilicon/fluorosilicone, and non-silicon types.
